A wine may have the right label, the right vintage and the right score, but unless you know how it has been stored, you are still missing one of the most important chapters in the story.

Heat, light, poor humidity and years of temperature fluctuation can quietly damage a wine long before there are obvious signs. By the time you find out, the cork is already pulled.

This is why provenance matters

In fine wine, provenance refers to the documented history of a bottle.

Where it came from. How it was transported. How it was stored. Who has held it. Whether that history can be trusted.

For aged, rare and collectible wine, it matters enormously.

Because with aged wine, the bottle’s past directly shapes its future.

Wine Ark does not just sell aged wine. In many cases, we have cellared it from release.

Many wine sellers can inspect a bottle, photograph a label and describe the fill level. That is useful, but it only tells you how the bottle looks today.

Wine Ark can go further.

For over two decades, we have professionally stored wine for collectors across Australia in purpose-built, climate-controlled cellars. Many of the aged wines offered through Wine Ark have been held in our own care since release.

We know when they arrived. We know how they were stored. We know whether they have remained in professional storage.

That gives Wine Ark a genuine advantage when selling aged wine.

And it gives buyers confidence.

The Wine Ark Provenance Program identifies wines with a verified or clearly known storage history.

These may include wines that have been:

• stored with Wine Ark from release
• purchased through Wine Ark and kept in managed storage
• received directly from a winery, importer or trusted source
• transported under controlled conditions
• reviewed by Wine Ark with a storage history we can verify

Not every aged bottle qualifies. That is the point.

The Provenance Program separates wines with a clear, trusted history from those where the story is less certain.
